Who we are

KWPQ-LP is an FCC licensed, low power FM radio station in Springfield, Missouri.

Low Power FM (LPFM) is a non-commercial educational broadcast radio service authorized by Congress and created by the Federal Communications Commission in the United States in 2000. The intent is to serve local communities with low power stations that do not interfere with higher power commercial stations, and lend a “local” voice to the broadcast spectrum.

LPFM stations are restricted to 100 watts effective radiated power, with an antenna system no higher than 30 meters above average terrain at full power. The effective 60 dBu transmission pattern is set at 3.5 miles minimum, though our “total coverage area” is significantly beyond that range. See: Effective Radiated Power, LPFM Rules & Regs, 50/60 dBu curves in broadcasting.
